End Pavement Parking in Newcastle
We, the undersigned, call upon the Government to implement the Transport Select Committee findings regarding inconsiderate parking on pavements.
We believe that the Government should give our Councils more powers to deal with Anti Social Parking Behaviour: pavement parking, parking too near to a junction, and obstructing emergency vehicles is anti-social parking behaviour. It’s particularly dangerous to wheelchair users, blind or partially sighted people and mums & dads with prams.
Councils in London have been able to ban pavement parking for many years and it seems a nonsense that local authorities outside London remain unable to do this. Local authorities need this power to respond to concerns raised by their communities.
We understand that many drivers park considerately and that there are wider issues with congestion and parking spaces. But that’s no excuse for dangerous anti-social parking behaviour. We back the campaign ‘Positive Parking agenda’ which aims to educate people on the impact of their parking.
