Council Tax bills have shot up by 13% under Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak
• Under Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak council tax bills have rocketed – since 2019 they have forced bills up by £227 (13%) with the average Band D council tax bill now almost £1900. Last year even the Conservative chairman of the Local Government Association Cllr James Jamieson said that council tax rises were ‘the sting in the tail’ of the 2020 Budget
• In fact successive Conservative governments have forced council tax bills up to replace their own cuts to council funding: forcing council taxpayers to cough up more than £10bn extra council tax in 2021 compared to 2010, while reducing core funding to councils by nearly £16 billion over the same period
• The Local Government Association has warned that councils in England currently face costs of around £8bn by 2025 simply to keep vital services functioning at their current levels.
