Newcastle Labour would like to thank Kerry Allibhai following her decision to stand down from her role as a Councillor for South Jesmond.
Kerry was elected in May 2015 and has worked hard for residents in South Jesmond during her time as a Councillor, as well as serving on Licensing Committee and Overview and Scrutiny Committee. Kerry is standing down to focus on her family, raising her two young children, and on her career.
Kerry stated “Having considered my current circumstances, I have decided that it would be unfair to my constituents if I carried on as their elected representative, without being able to give them the time they deserve. It has been a huge privilege to represent them on the City Council.”
Leader Nick Forbes said,
“Thank you to Kerry for all of her hard work on behalf of residents in South Jesmond and for the roles that she held on Newcastle City Council. Kerry has been a strong campaigner on behalf of residents in South Jesmond and for the Labour Party across Newcastle.
“We wish Kerry and her family all the best for the future.”
An election for the seat will take place in May 2018, when all seats on Newcastle City Council will be up for election
