Lemington’s Labour Councillors were pleased to work with the National Citizenship Service and the Headliners charity to bring the Newcastle Scrub Up to Lemington.

Newcastle Scrub Up is run by a team undertaking the National Citizenship Award through the Headliners charity and aims at improving the local environment in Newcastle.

Lemington’s Labour Councillors invited the group to undertake a litter pick in Lemington around Valley View as part of their project to improve the environment. Councillors Kim McGuinness and David Cook met with the group as they were working in Lemington.

Kim said, 'It's wonderful to see such passionate and driven young people taking positive action across our City.

‘They really want to make a difference and of course, want to get invaluable experience for their future.

‘We'd like to thank the volunteers for the time they spent in Lemington. The outcome is incredible, with the team removing 24 bags of rubbish from Valley View.’

As well as working with Headliners, Lamington Councillors continue to support regular community litter picks across the ward all year round.
