Our National Health Service is facing an unprecedented funding crisis.
Join Newcastle Labour in calling for the Government to urgently invest in our NHS, and safeguard GP services in Newcastle.
Despite the brilliant efforts of NHS staff, years of underfunding under the Tories, and the Tory-Liberal Democrat Coalition Government, have seen ever increasing pressures on our National Health Service.
In Newcastle, over the past few months we have seen a number of announcements that GP practices will be closing, in some of the most deprived areas of our city. Thousands of patients have been told they will have to find new GPs.
This will have a drastic impact on communities and their ability to access health services. It will also place additional pressure on other GP practices, walk-in centres and on Accident & Emergency.
A recent GP survey highlighted that there had been an overall decline in patients experiences of GP services, with the time taken to get a GP appointment given as the top reason for dissatisfaction. In response, the British Medical Association stated that the results showed the growing impact of unsustainable funding pressures facing GP practices.
Newcastle Labour Party are calling for the Government to urgently invest in our NHS and provide an extra an additional £30 billion in funding for the NHS. We demand that resources should be focused on services to provide care close to home, including increased funding to general practice to ensure patients can access the care they need.
