City Council gets 'Booze SBP' powers

A City Labour Councillor this week backed the Government’s decision to give Newcastle Council and Northumbria Police new powers to crack down on people responsible for alcohol-related crime and anti social behaviour.

Stephen Lambert, Labour’s spokesman on Community Safety, is calling on Lib Dem Council chiefs to apply for ‘Drinking Banning Orders’ (known as ‘booze asbos’) on individuals aged over 16 who regularly commit offences while drunk.

Councillor Lambert said: “Disorder and anti social behaviour linked to booze, costs the city thousands of pounds each year.  The new Orders have the potential to stop those people who are known to their neighbourhoods from ruining people’s quality of life”.

In a Written Question to this month’s City Council meeting, Councillor Lambert wants the Council to adopt the new powers given to them by the Government.

Promoted by Ray Collins, General Secretary, the Labour Party, on behalf of the Labour Party, both at 39 Victoria Street, London, SW1H 0HA.
