Local resident and former Lemington Councillor, Barry Phillipson, has been selected as Labour’s candidate for May’s local elections.
Barry is a long time resident and former Lemington Councillor who supported thousands of people across Lemington for many years before standing down in 2018. He also worked for our local Member of Parliament, Catherine McKinnell, from 2010 until 2020 when he retired.
As one the Lemington Councillors, Barry was involved in the delivery of Newburn Riverside Business Park, he worked very closely with the Friends of Lemington to deliver The Lemington Centre and provide continued support to them, he also worked closely with South West Denton Tenants and Residents Association to resolve problems and support tenants during the modernisation of their estate.
Barry worked with local residents’ groups, community projects, schools and the local community for many years. His work included projects to improve the environment, helping to secure funding for youth services, tackling anti-social behaviour by coordinating community safety days with Northumbria Police, Your Homes Newcastle, and the Fire Service.
Barry commented “I was privileged to represent the people of Lemington ward as one of their local Councillors. Having lived in Lemington for most of my life, I care deeply about the area and our community. With your support, I would be honoured, to represent the people of Lemington ward once again.”
