  • City Labour councillor calls on Newcastle Council and Police to lock up young people who breach ASBO's
    A Newcastle Labour Councillor is calling on Council bosses and the police to take tough action on those young people who breach ASBOs. According to figures obtained by Councillor Stephen Lambert, who is Labour’s Community Safety Spokesman on the Council, there are currently 21 ASBOs in place that have been pursued by Newcastle City Council and the Police (Safe Newcastle Partners). Since January 2009 a staggering 13 have been breached.   • Councillor calls for more action to deal with city's dangerous dogs
    A Newcastle Labour Councillor this week has called on City Lib Dem bosses to take more action to deal with the problem of ‘dangerous dogs’ following a series of Evening Chronicle reports. Welcoming new Government legislation which gives guidance to both councils and police to deal with the issue, Labour Councillor Stephen Lambert wants the Council to develop a strategy including increasing the number of dog wardens across the city.   • Councillor welcomes payback time for city offenders
    A Newcastle Labour Council this week backed a range of ‘Community Payback’ schemes being introduced across the City. The Government’s Community Payback gives young offenders in the city a chance ‘to pay back’ local neighbourhoods by doing unpaid community work which aims to improve the environment. Projects to date include cleaning up Fawdon Park and this month cleaning up North Kenton Park.   • City Council gets 'Booze ASBO' powers
    A City Labour Councillor this week backed the Government’s decision to give Newcastle Council and Northumbria Police new powers to crack down on people responsible for alcohol-related crime and anti social behaviour. Stephen Lambert, Labour’s spokesman on Community Safety, is calling on Lib Dem Council chiefs to apply for ‘Drinking Banning Orders’ (known as ‘booze asbos’) on individuals aged over 16 who regularly commit offences while drunk.
