Jeremy is a former Leader of the City Council and has also served as Chairman of the Labour Party and of the Local Government Association, representing councils in England Wales. He is President of Age Concern Newcastle, Vice President of the Council of Voluntary Service and the Community Foundation, and serves on the Council's Constitutional Commitee and Health and Wellbeing Scrutiny Panel. He chairs the Benwell & Scotswood Ward Committee. Jeremy is currently campaigning for vigorous action by the Council to regenerate Benwell and Scotswood, for a licensing scheme for landlords in Benwell High Cross and a greater effort by the Council to promote the take up of council tax benefit and rate relief for small businesses.
